How to Change a Flat Tire in Indianapolis, IN
At one point or another in your driving career, you’ll likely encounter a situation where your tire becomes completely deflated suddenly and seemingly without explanation. Whether you ran over a large nail while traveling through Indianapolis or if it was on its last leg, we recommend that you commit this how-to guide on how to change a flat tire to memory. This has been provided to you by our team here at Eastgate CJDR, where we’re more than happy to be of assistance to you in times of need!
Tools
The best way to prepare for a situation such as this is to already have the resources necessary in the trunk of your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram vehicle. The one of utmost importance is the spare tire itself, which many models have hidden beneath the trunk lining. Then, check your glove box and grab your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual, which should contain directions on how to change it out and the pressure each one should be set to. If you have a portable tire inflator on hand, you may even be able to alleviate the issue without having to swap it out with your spare. However, in the event that you don’t have one, make sure to have a jack and wheel wrench to get the process started.
Initial Steps
First and foremost, you’ll want to locate a space to pull over that will allow you to perform the flat tire change without unnecessary interruptions. Don’t hesitate to give us a call if you’re in need of some local places to do so. If you’re on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway, for example, there’s usually an emergency lane that you can use to safely perform the procedure. Be sure that the space is accommodating enough so that you’re able to begin the process safely. Begin removing the flat tire by unfastening the lug nuts, making sure to not remove them completely. You’ll then want to raise the vehicle with a jack, and there is typically a slot on the undercarriage of the car you can affix it to. Once it’s secured, you can now suspend the vehicle a few inches to deinstall the flat tire. Do so by completely unscrewing the lug nuts, then pull it away from you to remove it.
Final Steps
With the flat out of the way, you’re one step closer to heading to our location and purchasing a factory-fresh tire. But to do so, your next order of conduct is to equip the spare to the now empty space. Using the lug bolts as a guide, you can align its rim to the slots to the point where they are visible past the rim itself. Give yourself a pat on the back now that you’ve nearly finished the job, given that all you have left to do is place the lug nuts back on, tighten them, and then lower the vehicle back down to ground level. Be sure to check the tire pressure of the spare to make sure it’s primed to cruise a few miles. Once that’s done, head to our dealership that is located near Warren Park and our service team can help you from there. If any additional repairs need to be performed, we use Mopar® parts to get the job done right!
